Opt out of iAds tracking

"Apple and its partners use cookies and other technologies in mobile advertising services to control the number of times you see a given ad, deliver ads that relate to your interests, and measure the effectiveness of ad campaigns. If you do not want to receive ads with this level of relevance on your mobile device, you can opt out by accessing the following link on your iOS 4 mobile device."
"You may still see the same number of ads as before, but they may be less relevant because they will not be based on your interests."

Apple Outsider » Hello, Lua

Apple will allow limited use of interpreted languages in iOS apps.
"Under the radar of this week’s WWDC news is a small but very significant change to the iPhone Developer Program License Agreement. ... These new terms seem to acknowledge that there’s a difference between an app that happens to have non-compiled code, and a meta-platform. It’s a step that should allow for many new possibilities."

Time for Apple to open up the iPhone | Phones | Mac Word | Macworld

"No, I’m here to say to Apple that while I understand very well the reasons for the company’s walled-garden approach to native iPhone OS apps, the strengths of that approach have now been surpassed by the bad publicity and reputation that Apple and its products are now getting in the market as a whole."

"Pretend you’re Apple" [Brent Simmons]

"[Apple has] avoided the bleak future where computers are nothing but web browsers, where user experience is struggling to hit 1995 levels of quality, where all you’re making is a dumb terminal that can show pictures and play video, where you’re back to being the “beleaguered” Apple, whose product is a commodity easily matched, or close enough, by other companies that charge less."

Apple iPhone Doomed To Failure -- Windows Mobile 7 Plans For 2009 Leaked

Mitchell Ashley of NetworkWorld predicts certain doom for the iPhone, back in January 2008, as Microsoft leaked ponies-n-unicorns magic photos of Windows Mobile 7 (which has since slipped to late 2010). "iPhone will fail to dominate as so many other Apple products have failed to in the past. The iPhone is certain to fade into history as another cool Apple innovation, that others soon rushed competitive, like-products to market, blowing away any significant lead Apple might have. ... Enjoy the limelight because it won't last long."

Generative Music: an interview with Peter Chilvers

The programmer/musician who collaborated with Brian Eno on the iPhone apps "Bloom" and the new "Trope". "...Anything you play is repeated back at you after a delay. But the length of that delay varies in subtle, but complex ways, and keeps the music interesting and eccentric. It's actually deliberately 'wrong' - you can't play exactly in time with something you've already played, and a few people have mistaken this for a bug. Actually, it was a bug at one point - but Brian liked the effect, and we ended up emphasising it. "Honour they error as a hidden intention" is something of a recurring theme in Brian's work."

Blocks for iPhoneOS 3.0 and Mac OS X 10.5 [Plausible Labs]

"Blocks are a great addition to Objective-C, but unfortunately, are only available in Mac OS X 10.6. We have a quite a bit of code that could be greatly simplified using blocks, and so I decided to spend some time back-porting block support to iPhoneOS 3.0 and Mac OS X 10.5. "The result, Plausible Blocks, provides a drop-in runtime and Xcode compiler for using blocks in your iPhone and Mac OS X 10.5 applications, based on Apple’s Snow Leopard blocks runtime and compiler support."

plblocks

"Plausible Blocks (PLBlocks) provides a drop-in runtime and toolchain for using blocks [aka closures] in iPhone 2.2+ and Mac OS X 10.5 applications. Both the runtime and compiler patches are direct backports from Apple's Snow Leopard source releases."
