"driftage" [Low Light Mixes]
Another excellent ambient music mix from Low Light Mixes. "Drifting...floating...coasting...gliding...swimming... Whatever word you choose, all would describe this mix perfectly. It's just a nice collection of mostly new tunes, all with a drifting, floating feel. This mix works great for sleeping, enjoy."April 01 2010
Bryan Armalavage - B-Side Radio 004 (March 2010) feat. Samson [SoundCloud]
A really good 2-hour tech-house mix. Recommended.

Jasper TX – From Midnight To Sunlight [Headphone Commute]
A mix by ambient musician Dag Rozenqvist, aka Jasper TX. "I think these tracks all have the same kind of atmosphere to them. They’re quite restrained and there’s kind of a hypnotic quality to them. To me they really represent night time music. When listening to the mix I find myself being sucked into this comforting, soothing calm."January 07 2010
Crazy Cat Fanciers card game [Invisible City Productions]
A card game for two to four pet aficionados, by Jonathan Leistiko. "Goal: End the game with cats. Lots of cats. Cats that match your personal quirks (Youʼre not crazy. Youʼre just different.) are especially nice to have. Donʼt let the feral cat population get to high or youʼll attract the attention of the ASPCA, and you donʼt want that."A system for playing D&D with my kid [NewbieDM]
"If you are anything like me, your little kids are curious about D&D. I know that when game time comes at my house, my 4 year old daughter loves hanging around the table seeing what we’re doing. She’s full of questions about the minis, maps, and books. It had gotten to the point that she’d been asking me to play with her, so I played fake D&D with the minis and tiles, but with no dice. After a few times of doing that, she wizened up and asked me about the dice. I figured it was time, so I went ahead an invented a quick rpg for us to play together. "I’m not making claims about being a designer or anything, this was a rough system I quickly put together in order to give her a minimalist rpg experience. Keep in mind, it is very, very simple. In play testing it I found that it would work better with a kid who knows how to add and subtract, although it is certainly not a necessity for them to enjoy it. "September 29 2009
281 free dub samples [Musicradar.com]
"The samples are split across four construction kits, each of which contains drum, bass, guitar, keyboard and other loops, plus a selection of drum hits. All the samples are supplied as 24-bit WAV files so can be imported directly into your DAW of choice. Because they're royalty-free, you're welcome to use them in your music in any way you like – all we ask is that you don't re-distribute them."September 17 2009
Microlite20, purest essence
A "trimmed-down, subminiature" version of D20, aka D&D 3.x, in the form of a very handsome-looking 17-page PDF. Definitely falls in the rules-lite category, but mostly compatible with D20-based scenarios and such.August 16 2009
Mythmere Games: Swords And Wizardry
A rewritten clone of the original 1974 Dungeons & Dragons rules; very lightweight compared to today's D&D. Free PDF download or $10 book. Just won an ENnie award at GenCon.August 12 2009
Eclipse Phase
"Eclipse Phase is a pen & paper roleplaying game of post-apocalyptic transhuman conspiracy and horror. "An "eclipse phase" is the period between when a cell is infected by a virus and when the virus appears within the cell and transforms it. During this period, the cell does not appear to be infected, but it is. "Players take part in a cross-faction secret network dubbed Firewall that is dedicated to counteracting "existential risks" — threats to the existence of transhumanity, whether they be biowar plagues, self-replicating nanoswarms, nuclear proliferation, terrorists with WMDs, net-breaking computer attacks, rogue AIs, alien encounters, or anything else that could drive an already decimated transhumanity to extinction." Just introduced, CC-licensed, at GenCon 2009.July 08 2009

Mystified’s Self-Remix MP3s
“About a year ago, Thomas Park, who records as Mystified, released a five-track collection of atmospheric synthesis, titled Altered Signals, all of it sourced reportedly from broadcast sound, and then transformed by Park’s musical alchemy. The music was meditative and rich; seemingly quiet, but when played loud it revealed serious depth. Now Park has updated the collection, adding beats to each of the five tracks, which makes for an entirely new listening experience, and for a study in contrasts.”March 07 2009
Suvudu Free Book Library
SF e-book site by Random House; they're giving away the first books of some series as *free* PDFs, to get people hooked. The first five include Kim Stanley Robinson's "Red Mars", which is probably the best hard-SF book I've ever read -- a very realistic epic of colonizing Mars, which also has well-drawn characters and interesting political and ecological ideas. There's also Naomi Novik's "His Majesty's Dragon", which my wife says is a kick-ass combination of Patrick O'Brien style 19th-century seafaring plus dragons.March 02 2009
Risus: The Anything RPG
“Risus is a complete Role Playing Game (RPG) designed to provide an "RPG Lite" for those nights when the brain is too tired for exacting detail. Risus is especially valuable to GMs assembling a quick convention game, or any late-night beer-and-pretzels outing. While it is essentially a Universal Comedy System, it works just as well for serious play (if you insist!). Best of all, a Risus character takes about 20 seconds to create!” Rules are a free 6-page PDF. Lots of other free supplements available, or you can buy everything in a $35 softcover book from Lulu.February 28 2009
"The Pool" RPG system by James V. West
A "simple as possible but no simpler" free RPG system designed in 2001(?). It's a mechanism for collaborative storytelling (with a GM as ringleader) using a very simple dice mechanic. All in about three pages of text.February 09 2009
The Theory and Technique of Electronic Music, by Miller Puckette
Complete book in PDF form. (Direct link to the PDF.) “The Theory and Technique of Electronic Music is a uniquely complete source of information for the computer synthesis of rich and interesting musical timbres. The theory is clearly presented in a completely general form. But in addition, examples of how to synthesize each theoretical aspect are presented in the Pd language so the reader of the book can immediately use the theory for his musical purposes.”
